How to Set Up the JTD-3282 HDMI Splitter

 

Step 1: Turn Off the Equipment

  • All connected TVs, monitors or projectors
  • JTD-3282 HDMI splitter

Connecting everything while powered off can help establish a clean HDMI and HDCP handshake during startup.

 

Step 2: Connect the HDMI Source

 

Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI output of your source device to the port labeled IN on the JTD-3282.

Examples include:

  • Streaming player HDMI output → splitter HDMI input
  • Cable box HDMI output → splitter HDMI input
  • Computer HDMI output → splitter HDMI input
  • Blu-ray player HDMI output → splitter HDMI input

Make sure the HDMI cable is fully seated at both ends.

 

Step 3: Connect the Displays

 

Connect HDMI cables from the splitter’s output ports to the HDMI inputs on your displays.

For example:

  • OUT 1 → TV 1
  • OUT 2 → TV 2
  • OUT 3 → TV 3
  • OUT 4 → TV 4

You do not have to use all four outputs. The splitter can operate with one, two, three or four displays connected.

Step 5: Power On the System

 

Use the following power-up order:

  1. Turn on the displays.
  2. Power the JTD-3282 splitter.
  3. Turn on the HDMI source.

After startup, check the front-panel indicators:

  • Power LED should be illuminated.
  • Input LED should illuminate when the HDMI source is detected.
  • Output LEDs should illuminate for connected displays.

Allow several seconds for the HDMI and HDCP handshake to complete.

 

Step 6: Set the Source Resolution

 

For a system using four compatible 4K displays, configure the HDMI source for a supported format such as:

  • 3840 × 2160 at 60Hz with 4:2:0 output
  • 3840 × 2160 at 30Hz
  • 1920 × 1080 at 60Hz

The JTD-3282 supports up to 4K@60Hz using 4:2:0 chroma subsampling and has a maximum bandwidth of 10.2Gbps. It is not designed for full-bandwidth 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 signals.

When connecting a computer, streaming player or game console, make sure its output format does not exceed the capabilities of the splitter or the connected displays.

 

Understanding the JTD-3282 EDID Function

 

 

EDID, or Extended Display Identification Data, tells the HDMI source which video and audio formats the connected display can support.

The JTD-3282 automatically copies EDID information from a connected display. There is no manual EDID switch or control button on this model.

According to the product manual:

  1. When both a TV and computer monitor are connected, the splitter may prioritize the monitor’s EDID.
  2. When 4K and 1080p displays are connected together, the splitter prioritizes the 1080p display’s EDID.
  3. When replacing a display with one that supports a higher resolution, the splitter must be rebooted so it can copy the new display’s EDID.

 

Using 4K and 1080p Displays Together

 

When a 4K display and a 1080p display are connected at the same time, the splitter will generally request a 1080p signal from the source.

This allows the same compatible signal to be displayed on every connected screen.

The JTD-3282 does not independently downscale one output while maintaining 4K on another. Therefore, connecting a lower-resolution display may cause the entire system to operate at that lower compatible resolution.

For the most consistent results, use displays with matching capabilities.

 

Replacing or Adding a Display

 

If you connect a new display and the splitter does not recognize its supported resolution:

  1. Turn off the source.
  2. Disconnect power from the splitter.
  3. Connect the new display.
  4. Turn on the display.
  5. Reconnect power to the splitter.
  6. Turn on the source.

This forces the splitter to read the new EDID information and establish a fresh HDMI handshake.

 

 

Use Matching Displays When Possible

 

The best results are usually achieved when all connected displays support the same:

  • Resolution
  • Refresh rate
  • HDR format
  • HDCP version
  • Audio format

Mixed display capabilities can cause the source to output a lower common resolution or audio format.

Use Reliable HDMI Cables

 

For 4K operation, use good-quality HDMI cables rated for the required bandwidth.

Long, damaged or low-quality HDMI cables can cause:

  • No signal
  • Intermittent video
  • Screen flickering
  • Sparkling pixels
  • Resolution dropping
  • HDCP errors

When troubleshooting, test with short HDMI cables first.

 

Set a Compatible Audio Format

 

The splitter passes HDMI audio to each connected display. Supported formats include PCM 2.0, DTS, Dolby and LPCM up to 7.1 channels.

However, every display must be able to accept the audio format sent by the source.

For maximum compatibility, set the HDMI source to:

  • PCM
  • Stereo
  • 2-channel audio

This is especially helpful when using a mixture of TVs, monitors and projectors.

 

Avoid Connecting or Disconnecting Displays During Use

 

Hot-plugging a display can change the EDID information presented to the source. This may interrupt video on the other displays.

When changing displays or HDMI cables, power-cycle the system afterward to restore a stable handshake.

Troubleshooting the JTD-3282

 

No Displays Show an Image

 

Check the following:

  1. Confirm the splitter’s power LED is illuminated.
  2. Confirm the HDMI source is powered on.
  3. Confirm the source is connected to the port labeled IN.
  4. Confirm each display is set to the correct HDMI input.
  5. Set the source to 1080p at 60Hz.
  6. Test with one display connected to OUT 1.
  7. Replace the HDMI cables with known-working cables.
  8. Power-cycle the entire system.

Also test the source directly with one display. This confirms whether the problem is related to the splitter or another component.

 

One Display Shows No Signal

 

If the other displays are working:

  1. Move the non-working display to another splitter output.
  2. Test that display with a different HDMI cable.
  3. Confirm the correct HDMI input is selected.
  4. Connect the working cable and output to the affected display.
  5. Reduce the source resolution to 1080p.
  6. Power-cycle the display and splitter.

If the problem follows the HDMI cable, replace the cable. If it follows the display, review the display’s HDMI compatibility settings.

 

4K Video Is Not Working

 

Confirm that:

  • The source is set to 4K@60Hz 4:2:0 or a lower supported format.
  • All connected displays support the selected resolution.
  • The source is not outputting 4K@60Hz 4:4:4.
  • HDR is disabled temporarily for testing.
  • High-bandwidth HDMI cables are being used.
  • No 1080p-only display is connected.
  • The splitter was rebooted after changing displays.

The maximum supported resolution is 4K@60Hz 4:2:0 with 10.2Gbps bandwidth.

 

All Displays Drop to 1080p

 

This is expected when a 1080p display is connected alongside 4K displays.

The splitter prioritizes the lower-resolution display’s EDID so the source sends a signal that every connected display can accept.

To restore 4K:

  1. Disconnect the 1080p display.
  2. Turn off the source.
  3. Disconnect power from the splitter.
  4. Turn on the 4K displays.
  5. Reconnect power to the splitter.
  6. Turn on the source.
  7. Confirm that the source is set to a supported 4K format.

 

Video Flickers or Cuts In and Out

 

Possible causes include:

  • HDMI cables are too long
  • Cable bandwidth is insufficient
  • Source resolution is too high
  • HDR is creating a compatibility issue
  • One display has different capabilities
  • An unstable USB power source is being used
  • HDMI handshake was interrupted

Test the system at 1080p with one short HDMI cable and one display. Reconnect the remaining outputs one at a time to identify the problem connection.

 

Picture Works but There Is No Audio

 

Try the following:

  1. Set the source audio output to PCM or stereo.
  2. Confirm that the display volume is not muted.
  3. Confirm that audio is being sent over HDMI.
  4. Test the source directly with the display.
  5. Disconnect displays that may not support the selected audio format.
  6. Power-cycle the source, splitter and displays.

Because the same audio format is distributed to every output, using a format unsupported by one or more displays can cause compatibility problems.

 

LEDs Are On but There Is No Video

 

An illuminated LED confirms that a connection has been detected, but it does not guarantee that the source resolution, HDCP or EDID negotiation is compatible.

Set the source to 1080p, disconnect all but one display and restart the system. Once video is restored, reconnect the remaining displays individually.

Does the JTD-3282 show different content on four displays?

No. It duplicates or mirrors one HDMI source across all connected displays. It does not function as a video wall controller, matrix switch or extended-desktop adapter.

 

Can I connect fewer than four displays?

Yes. You can use any number of outputs between one and four.

 

Does the splitter support 4K at 60Hz?
